Christmas is near ...

...and suddenly there seems to be a surge in number of non-church goers 'Christian'. Perhaps, it is the spirit of celebration that is attracting people to start putting up the Christmas tree, artificial snow man etc.

I am no Christian myself but for the sake of the festive atmosphere and to avoid the constant nag from my kids (mainly influences from their kindergarten), that we have some Christmas decoration at our house. And just like any other Christian family, we start having Christmas day count down and not forgetting the Christmas presents' list for the relatives and friends. Oh man, I can tell you this, if I have a choice I would rather take a few days off and go to Cameron Highlands to play a few rounds of golf. The children can enjoy the cool surrounding and celebrate Christmas at the hotel. Present? They can have a chocolate bar each...that will keep them happy for a while.

Christmas always reminds me of New Year's Eve. The Auld-Lang-Syne starts playing in my head and sense of obscurity like time suddenly runs short and people sunken into deep thoughts about the past, the lost friendship, the happy days, and the demised.

During the younger days, Christmas and New Year's eve means drinks and parties leaving the next day for recovery. Today, the kids' affair took priority and we celebrate because of them just to make sure they are not 'left out' from their peers.

And when I thought about our upcoming 30th Anniversary celebration for the class of 71-76 (Primary Schoolmates) next year, couldn't help but seriously believe that we have missed out so many good things in life.

Fcuk the work, time to go home and see my kids before their bedtime. Otherwise, there will be one more line item on my New Year's Eve "Not Done" list.

Merry Christmas (for those celebrating) and a Happy New Year 2006!

  • 5xmom: Thanks! Just trying to get ahead of things knowing that I will be traveling non-stop until at least the 3rd week of December.

siedne: These days the kids are much more demanding not forgeting the influences from their peers at school. The parents are the one forced to comply.
